Although mostly aimed at primary school children and older, DiaryZapp is an opportunity to create with young children records of their everyday life and promote early writing skills. The app allows the creation of one page for each day of the year. The pages can include handwritten and typed text, drawings, stickers, and photos, so lots of opportunities for children to make visual messages and practice marking, fine motor skills and early writing, like writing their names and other simple words related to their life experience. It includes a Zappicon, a virtual friend that children can create, name and customise. He or she makes suggestions of synonyms when you type, supporting children's vocabulary learning, and if requested, give questions to prompt children's creativity. Children can share their diary entries with their "buddies", who need to be pre-added by the "Chief Adult," creating safe external communication with family and friends. The sharing feature can be a motivation to keep writing periodically, but a system of milestones also encourage writing and exploring the features of the app. DiaryZapp makes creating a digital diary easy, and multiple diaries can be created for multiple children.
Other notable themes and features of the app include diary, Fine motor skills, Imagination.
